Some of the many people involved with NEPTUNE Canada. (Click to enlarge.)
The NEPTUNE Canada's infrastructure, instrumentation and sophisticated data management system would be useless without people—our growing community of scientists, educators, students and ocean enthusiasts. By creating an online commons for exploration and exchange of ideas, we can help transform ocean science into an active, collaborative process for people in distant locations with little opportunity for access to the seafloor.
In the coming months, we will be building a range of new online facilities for people. Examples include:
- member profile pages where you can learn about researchers and educators in the online community, with access to their bios, contributions and contact information
- discipline-focused discussion groups
- project team pages, where members can discuss project nuts and bolts, share documents, and coordinate plans
- an interactive community-driven ocean science calendar of events, conferences, workshops, meetings, etc.
- subscription services that will allow you to tune in to pages, discussions, and even instrument data feeds of interest
- commenting and discussion on things like instruments, sensors, data plots and video streams
